Dance Orientation

Just a brief orientation note as we begin our new dance year! We are really looking forward to the start of fall classes and new learnings. Thank you also in advance for your patience as we distribute and fit shoes, and meet our new dance friends the first couple of weeks. We are looking forward to seeing you all!!

Dance Participation

Our dance space is reserved for positive and encouraging learners. We expect all of our students to respect themselves, their classmates, classroom helpers, and the teacher. Learning to become good citizens who display positive traits in values and ethics is at the forefront of our teaching philosophy. Students not demonstrating these qualities will not be allowed to disrupt the classroom climate, and may be asked to leave the dance space. We are pleased to share that issues of discipline are extremely rare at the studio.

Parent Visitation

At our studio, you have the opportunity to observe the learning process as it happens, and positive and encouraging parents are always welcome. Parents of younger children may also choose to assist with shoe changes (in the lobby) or restroom visits during class. If a parent is not present, we will see that all children wash their hands before returning to class. If possible, have the child visit the restroom before class.

Classroom Attire

For proper technique and advancement, all students are to be in dance attire, to include leotard and tights for girls, and shorts or comfortable pants and t-shirt for boys. Girls may also add skirts or wear skirted leotards. Older girls may wear jazz pants with dance tops. No t-shirts or sweatshirts.

Exception***Please note ballet students in  Wed. 7:45 are required to wear black leotard, pink tights, and skirt over tights. Please also check to see that you have the appropriate shoes for your class. It is a good idea to mark shoes with the childs initials, as mix-ups can occur during shoes changes within the class.

Classroom Format

Most combination groups will begin with the tap warm-up and learning routines, move to ballet/jazz, and finish with a short tumbling section. Our three-year-olds will focus their class without a shoe change, staying in the ballet slippers.

We have a variety of learning activities planned for all of your children throughout class this year, for their learning enjoyment! New music and materials have been ordered again this year, to mix with the tried and true of before. Classes are designed to be both fun and educational, and to encourage musicality, physical skill development, confidence, teamwork, and coordination, while building on listening skills. Later this fall we will start preparing for our annual holiday recital to be held onstage in December. That has been an exciting event for the children the past several years.

Shoe and/or Dancewear Order
We will place an additional shoe order the first week or two of classes.  After that we will place one shoe order per month starting with November, 2010. We will need to size you during class if you are ordering. If you have need of dancewear, we have dancewear available to order.  See the large poster displayed at the studio.  See Teresa for pricing.    **Pointe ballet shoes... if you are in need of ordering new pointe shoes for the dance year, please be prepared to order them the 1st week of classes.  We will plan on only ordering these in the beginning of the year as we order these from an outside shoe company.  See the dance studio for pricing.

Cooler

We keep a cooler filled with water bottles in the back of the studio. Students may purchase a drink and place their money in the box provided there.

We are excited to see you all, and will keep you posted with monthly newsletters and/or emails, if you are on our email list.

Have a wonderful dance year!
